R&D Leadership & Advisory
I provide strategic R&D leadership and counsel to medical imaging AI teams on defensible technical decision-making, from early problem framing to R&D validation.
With a PhD in Computer Vision and over ten years of experience in applied medical imaging R&D, I bring structured perspective on problem formulation, data due diligence, actionable literature review, experiment design, and evaluation strategy. My work spans the entire R&D lifecycle.
My goal is to ensure that technical choices, data constraints, and evaluation strategies remain aligned with real-world clinical, operational, and regulatory requirements, so that R&D efforts lead to robust and credible outcomes.
Many teams carry a silent gap between the people building the models and the people who must rely on them, whether clinicians, regulators, or investors. I make technical work defensible across that gap: translating algorithmic work into choices that can be justified, benchmarked, and documented, so they hold up to scrutiny.
This is what allows teams to build robust, technically defensible, and safe-by-design systems.
R&D Leadership & Advisory Framework
A structured overview of how I intervene across the AI R&D lifecycle.
Collaboration Format
Engagements are tailored to project and team needs, from focused short assessments and technical reviews to ongoing advisory mandates. For teams that need senior technical direction, I also take on leadership roles (Head of AI / CSO), leading their technical strategy directly.
The format adapts to project maturity and team structure, with the objective of strengthening judgment and technical defensibility throughout the R&D lifecycle.
Technical Framing & Feasibility
Clarifying problem formulation, objectives & constraints before key decisions are locked in.
Data Due Diligence
Identifying structural risks in datasets – provenance, labeling, leakage, class balance – that may affect development, validation, or deployment.
Experiment & Evaluation Strategy
Structuring experiments & evaluation protocols to ensure results are interpretable, comparable & aligned with real-world use.
Literature Review & Analysis
Reviewing, selecting, and justifying feasible and scalable methods aligned with project constraints & strategic objectives.
Technical Documentation
Documenting technical decisions so they remain traceable and defensible over time, including for regulatory and audit needs.
Expert Session
Diving into specific technical issues you are facing – answering questions or reviewing targeted documents.
Case Study
Applying the VeraDP Data Due Diligence Protocol to a public dataset of 112,120 images across 30,805 patients surfaced a risk that is easy to miss and costly to ignore: a single patient contributing up to 184 images, creating a significant data-leakage risk when splits are not handled at the patient level.
This is one of several findings that shape how evaluation should be designed. The full evaluation is available on the case study page.
